Individual Therapy

Individual therapy is a one-on-one therapeutic relationship between the client and therapist. It provides a dedicated space for individuals to explore their relationships and interactions with their external environment. Through this process, we help clients understand the psychological mechanisms they have developed over time—examining whether these patterns continue to serve them or if they are unconsciously serving the mechanisms instead.

At Per Se Psychology, we create a supportive environment where clients receive the therapist’s full attention, allowing them to uncover, process, and move forward from what may be holding them back.

Our Therapeutic Approaches

We use a combination of evidence-based therapies tailored to each individual’s needs. These include:

ISTDP (Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy)

ISTDP is a psychodynamic therapy informed by attachment theory. It effectively helps individuals process attachment ruptures and let go of unhelpful patterns, facilitating healthier emotional and relational functioning. For more insight, see the works of Allan Abbass, Patricia Coughlin, and Jon Frederickson.

CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy)

CBT focuses on identifying maladaptive thought patterns and reframing them into healthier perspectives. It also incorporates behavioral interventions to support cognitive change—such as implementing daily habits like walking to counteract depressive tendencies. Judith Beck’s work is an excellent resource on this approach.

ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy)

Similar to ISTDP, ACT takes a holistic approach to healing, emphasizing values-based living. A unique aspect of ACT is its inclusion of spirituality and personal belief systems, recognizing their importance in an individual’s psychological well-being. Regardless of religion, creed, gender identity, or background, ACT acknowledges all aspects of the person. For further reading, see Russ Harris and Steven Hayes.

Positive Psychology

Positive Psychology focuses on identifying and leveraging an individual’s strengths to enhance overall well-being. It is particularly effective in maintaining progress beyond mental illness and fostering personal growth. For a deeper understanding, we recommend the work of Martin Seligman.

Regardless of the therapeutic modality, we always work at your pace. We look forward to supporting you on your journey!
