Meet David Huffines – General Psychologist
Hi, my name is David, and I am a General Psychologist with a deep passion for helping people navigate life’s challenges. My journey into psychology was shaped by both personal and professional experiences, giving me a unique perspective on mental health and therapy.
I come from a blue-collar background and originally trained as an automotive mechanic. However, my own lived experience with mental health challenges led me to seek intervention and, ultimately, discover my love for psychotherapy. This transformative experience inspired me to make a significant life change.
At 28, I embarked on a new path and attended university for the first time, earning my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with Honours. During this period, I met my wife, started a family, and dedicated myself to understanding the complexities of the human mind. Instead of taking the traditional postgraduate route, I completed a two-year internship to achieve my registration as a psychologist.
Throughout my training, I had the privilege of working under the supervision of an expert in Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), which has since become my primary therapeutic approach. In addition, I incorporate evidence-based techniques from Positive Psychology, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to tailor treatment to each individual’s needs.
I believe that therapy should be a collaborative and empowering process, meeting clients where they are and helping them uncover their strengths to create meaningful change. Whether you are working through mental health concerns or seeking personal growth, I am here to support you on your journey.
